First fully electric car over the Coq “Ask a Canadian about driving across the Coq at any time in a Nissan LEAF, and the responses you’ll get will range from “are you nuts?” to nervous laughter. Not to be deterred, I decided to try and conquer the Coq as a pre-run for the eventual road trip with my family to Banff.” —EV enthusiast Steve Coram.

It is upsetting that this article is factually incorrect. The first Electric Car to cross the Coq was a Tesla ModelS. http://www.teslamotors.com
First??? Really? Friend in a Tesla Model S did this a loooong time ago.
Maybe it wasn’t there at first – but in the pdf story – the line (deep in the article) says … “his successful trip over the Coquihalla — the first time a fully electric car (not including the Tesla) has made it to Merritt.”. Likely the Headline would have been more correct if it said – “First Electric Commuter Car over the Coq”, since the LEAF is among a different Class than the Tesla – with its 75-84 miles range, vs. the Tesla with it’s 208, 225, or 265 miles range (60 kWh Model S, Roadster, 85 kWh Models S.)
Now as we can see after reading this article, it is painfully obvious that additional Level 2 Chargers are needed on this route, as well as a strategically placed DC Quick Charger, about 50 – 60% of the Distance from Hope, to the Peak. This trip underscores how far BC is behind Washington in building out their Green Highway Goals. I wonder what another year of development in BC will bring.
The Pemberton to Lillooet Duffy Lake Road, is another trip I would like to see a story like this on, but Lillooet is a hold out on the new Green Highway, with no 240V Level 2 Chargers, listed on PlugShare, at least!
