
Monday morning’s super moon. “Supermoons” aren’t as rare as solar or lunar eclipses but Sunday’s was the only time it has occurred this year. The phenomenon happens when the moon reaches its closest point to the Earth, also known as a “perigee moon” (as opposed to at “apogee” when it’s farthest away). The Moon appears about 7% larger and 15% brighter than usual, most noticeable at “moonrise” and “moonset”.
