Lower Nicola evacuation & Merritt alert. Last evening, TNRD issued an evacuation order for Lower Nicola after the Lytton Creek wildfire grew, fueled by hot and dry conditions and strong winds. It has continued east of Hwy 8 and the Nicola River, and spread to approx. 4 kms from Hwy 97C. Smoke is limiting visibility and creating challenging conditions. Evacuation orders are also in effect all along the Hwy 8 corridor. The Lower Nicola Band evacuation was issued at 7:15pm, for Rocky Pines, Shulus, Springs and Highway 97C.
